LO:To explore the concept of representation and stereotypes

  • The media offers the audience an interpretation of the world
  • It's a RE REPRESENTATION of the events, people and places

strong

resilient

Stereotypical-A stereotype is a general representation of a person, place or thing. They are limited and often offensive or used for comedy.

Nanny- Old, patient, female,

Nurse- Young, tired, busy, female,

Teenager- Rude, disrespectful, grumpy, egocentric,

Astronaut- Male, successful, rich,

Football player- Male, successful, strong, egocentric,

Opera fan- Annoying, loud, horrible singing voice,

Teacher- Loud, patient, kind, tired,

Tattoo lover- covered in tattoos, beard, motorbikes,

The advert challenges stereotypes by putting a male nurse next to a stereotypical guy. It puts male nurses right beside a man that is stereotypically strong to make male nurses look strong and not weak in comparison. It is trying to tell you that being a male nurse isn't challenging your intelligence and manliness. The stereotypical nurse is female but on the advert it shows you that nurses can also be male. Challenges that nurses are female and weak. Mixture of ages and races. Nurses have a variety of lifestyles.

Teachers- calm, some were moody,

Students- Loud, disrespectful, rude, messing around, whiney, misbehaving,

If they were doing a documentary of educating Cornwall, they would have basically everyone wearing their coats because its always raining, you would have less shouting and less people disrespecting the teachers because Cornish parents are stereotypically more strict and more likely to give their kid a clip round their ear if they were rude. People are probably poorer in Cornwall. Less drama, more relaxed and peaceful. Lack of diversity, and not al tot of different ethnicities. Less populated, smaller schools.
